Our facility is located in New Castle County, the northern most county of the State of Delaware. New Castle County’s population is approximately 506,000 and has the largest city in Delaware - Wilmington. Glasgow Medical Center is located at the western end of the county, approximately 16 miles from center city Wilmington and 2 miles from the Maryland border.
Demographics indicate that the Glasgow area population has a median age of 34.8; the current population is expected to near 150,000 by 2010. In recent years we have witnessed substantial business expansion in the Glasgow area. The development of our medical facility at Glasgow has been a natural outgrowth of the need to provide health care to the rapidly expanding population in our area.
The first phase of Glasgow Medical Center (Building I @ 57,000 sq. ft.) was constructed in 1990. It consisted of physician office space, the Medical Aid Unit, lab & x-ray. The Medical Aid Unit is an urgent care facility, staffed by physicians & nurses seven days a week. Patients are seen on a first-come, first-served basis. The average time for service is less than 30 minutes.
In 1996, an additional adjoining building (Building II @ 52,000 sq. ft.) was added to provide more office space and to house the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). Our ASC is a multi-specialty facility with four operating rooms and two procedure rooms. We are licensed by the State and Medicare approved. Originally accreditied by AAAHC in 1998, the Glasgow Ambulatory Surgery Center remains accredited by this prestigious health care accrediting organization.
Glasgow Medical Aid Unit at Christiana opened on November 1, 2004 to provide service to residents and workers in the mid-county area. Glasgow Medical Aid Unit at Middletown opened in October, 2005 to provide service to residents and workers in the lower New Castle County area. These units are owned and operated by Glasgow Medical Center, LLC whose Medical Aid Unit has served the Newark/Bear/Glasgow area since 1990. The Medical Aid Units are an attractive alternative when your physician is not available or your condition does not warrant a visit to the Hospital Emergency Room.
Our New Castle County medical community consists of over 1,000 practitioners. Approximately 100 physicians have offices in our facility and over 50 have privileges in the ASC. A paramedic sub-station is located at the corner of our Glasgow facility.
